The word Tobeatic means "Place of the Alder" in the Mi'kmaq language. The Toby has been a rich place for the Mi'kmaq people. The natives wintered in the tobeatic after spending the warmer seasons along the coast gathering seafood and fishing. They moved inland to the wilderness to the winter hunting grounds. Later years, Mi'kmaq quides made livings by quiding American hunters and outdoorsman through the Tobeatic. I will post other information pertaining to the Mi'kmaq traditions and their people as it relates to the Toby, as I come across it.
